Last September, before our trip to Hvar island, we stayed for a few days on Pag island in the village of Vlašići. Anyone who, like us, enjoys a quiet holiday will be happy here. A big bonus here is the sandy beach and sandy seabed with a very, very, very gradual entry into the sea. I dare say it's an ideal place for children. At least our children enjoyed it very much.
And where exactly is this picturesque Vlašići located? It's actually right on the lower (southern) part of Pag island, but far from the main road. Pag island is connected to the mainland by a bridge called Paški most, and Vlašići is a short distance from there. The journey here is not long, let's say it's about 8 hours from Brno. And we often stop for breaks with small children 🙂
Vlašići is quite intimate, and there isn't much there. There's definitely no nightlife. So what is there? There's that great sandy beach. In some places, the sand is fine, in others, it's coarser. You just need to find your spot. With the children, we built more than one sandcastle on the beach.
The sand in the sea is very fine, and the bay is very shallow. The entry into the water is very gradual, truly very much so. We've only had a similarly shallow bay in Jelsa so far. We were in Vlašići last year in September, but according to local signs, water attractions are usually available during the season – some inflatable castle in the water, pedal boats, etc. A small shop with summer goods is a short walk from the beach. You can mainly buy things like a sun umbrella there, which is very useful because there is no natural shade on the beach.
Right by the beach is the Dupin restaurant. This restaurant has a beautiful view of the beach and serves good food. We went there quite often because in September there was no other nearby option for a meal.
Next to this restaurant there are also a few apartments where you can stay, and it's right by the beach. A little further down the beach there is another Beach Bar, but it was already closed. Then there's a bakery nearby, and that's all.
About 1 km from the beach in the center of Vlašići village, next to the church, there is a shop with basic necessities. It's only open for a few hours a day. For larger purchases, we drove to the town of Pag, which is about 19 km away. On the way to Pag, you will pass the ornithological reserve Velo Blato, which is towards the resort of Povljana.
An asphalt road leads to the center of Vlašići village, and it's a nice walk. The road is lined with tamarisks and other mature vegetation. Right on the edge of the village is a small children's playground. Besides the Church of St. Jerome, a shop, and a few houses, there's nothing else here.
Hopefully, Vlašići will retain its peaceful atmosphere. If you like quiet places, you'll enjoy it here. Accommodation can be found quite easily online.
