Last year, as part of our Robinson Crusoe summer, we spent a pleasant week in the picturesque Pobij Bay near the village of Gdinj. This small bay has several benefits that made our small children, who were 4 and 6 years old at the time, love it.
A great advantage of the bay is its excellent pebble beach. Although there are more houses in the bay, many of them have a pier underneath, which is mainly used by older children for fun jumps into the water. We usually met other small children on the beach. And there was never a shortage of space.
Fine pebbles on the beach are a great advantage, as is the crystal clear sea. And the gradual entry into the sea will please all small non-swimmers. We were here when our daughter was slowly learning to swim, and she really enjoyed it here.
The houses in Pobij Bay were originally fishermen's cottages, now converted into apartments. And the homeowners still engage in fishing today. If you are lucky enough that the owner of your apartment lives in the bay, they might offer you a boat ride or even take you fishing if you show enthusiasm for it 🙂
One more practical piece of information – the houses in Pobij Bay run on solar energy. Our house had solar batteries, thanks to which we had hot water all day. However, not all houses in the bay have this, so it's good to check before choosing your vacation.
Another great advantage is the nearby family restaurant in Pakomina Bay. From Pobij Bay, it's about a 2 km macadam road to Pakomina Bay. This can be taken as a pleasant evening walk for dinner. The restaurant is renowned, and it's a good idea to book a table in advance. Another option for a pleasant dinner is the restaurant at Hotel Timun in Pokrivenik Bay. During the summer, there's also a pizza oven in operation there, with a choice of four types of pizza. Pokrivenik Bay is about 4 km from Pobij Bay.
A mobile fruit and vegetable vendor regularly visits Pobij Bay. You can also buy some baked goods and other basic groceries from him. Another option for buying groceries is a small shop in the village of Gdinj above Pobij Bay. For practical reasons, I should point out that bread needs to be ordered a day in advance there. From the bay, it's about an 18-minute drive to the shop in Gdinj, roughly 9 km. A few kilometers from Gdinj towards Sućuraj is the village of Bogomolje, where there is a modern shop with a good supply of baked goods and other basic items. A few steps from this shop is also a bar where locals and tourists gather. You can have coffee, draft beer, or lemonade or an ice cream for children. Definitely stop there for some refreshment. And in the same square, there's also a small children's playground, but the sun shines relentlessly on it all day. It's about a 25-minute drive from Pobij Bay to the square in Bogomolje, roughly 15 km.
