Raduč – the highest hill on the island of Murter

Raduč – the highest hill on the island of Murter

If you love viewpoints as much as we do, you shouldn't miss the highest hill on the island of Murter, called Raduč. It's not a very big hill, only 125 m above sea level, but the views from here are truly beautiful.

You can drive almost all the way to the top and park here. The macadam road is easily passable.

At the summit, you can see the ruins of a military complex that began construction in 1931.

The entire complex appears to be a long-abandoned place, yet it offers great views of the wide surroundings. From one side of the hill, where the ruins are, there is a beautiful view of the town of Murter, Betina, Crkvu Sv. Roka, and the mainland with adjacent islets on the northwest side.

If you walk along the path on the opposite side of the ruins, you'll get a view of the Kornati archipelago and other islands. On one side, you can faintly see houses near the famous Slanica beach, and on the other side, Čigrađa bay is partially visible.

In 2017, a public debate reportedly took place about the future use of the entire area, from which many ideas emerged. Hopefully, over time, a suitable use for such a great space will be found. Since August 2022, an exhibition of stories and anecdotes from Raduč hill has even been on display in the ruins at the summit. We were in Murter at the end of May, so I can't say if the exhibition is worth seeing.

Raduč, as a beautiful viewpoint, is definitely worth seeing. Here again, we played our favorite game on Murter – which island is which 🙂 Those with older children or a more adventurous nature can also explore a 310 m long tunnel from the 1930s, a short distance from the summit, which is reportedly freely and easily accessible. It's a good idea to bring a flashlight or a charged phone with you.
